Here’s a video I recorded a couple of days ago of me playing two simple word games that let you earn a little crypto while having fun.
If you enjoy puzzles like Wordle, these will feel very familiar. The two games are SatsCipher on Satsman.com and HiveWord, by hiveword.xyz on the Hive blockchain.
Both games follow the same basic idea. You have six tries to guess a five letter word. After each guess, the game shows which letters are correct and whether they are in the right position. Bit by bit you narrow down the possibilities until you find the answer. It is simple, quick, and can be somewhat addictive.
Winning Satoshi with Sats Cipher
The first game I tried is SatsCipher on Satsman.com for Pro members. The nice twist here is that you win Satoshi depending on how quickly you solve the puzzle. If you get the word in the first guess you win the maximum reward. As the guesses increase the reward decreases, but even solving it later still earns you something. It’s yet another way to stack sats every day on Satsman.com (but only available for Pro members).
In the video I start with a random guess to get some letters on the board, choosing a word with five different letters to eliminate or confirm as many as possibile in the first shot. After a couple of guesses the puzzle starts to take shape and you can begin narrowing down the answer. I managed to solve the puzzle in four guesses and picked up a small Satoshi reward in the process.
Another nice feature is that the result can be shared. The game generates a puzzle grid that hides the actual word but shows the pattern of guesses. This lets you post your result on social media or other platforms without spoiling the answer for other players.
Hive Word
After finishing SatsCipher, I switched over to HiveWord on the Hive blockchain. HiveWord works in a very similar way. It is also a daily puzzle with six chances to guess a five letter word. If you have played Wordle or similar games, you will immediately understand how it works.
What makes HiveWord interesting for Hive users is that it fits nicely into the Hive ecosystem. You can copy your puzzle with a single click, and paste your results on Hive based platforms such as the Snapie.io microblogging platform. Then other players, or anybody else, can upvote and comment on your post. If you play the free game, you don’t win any tokens, so the way to “earn” is to post your results and upvote and comment on other players’ game reports so as to create a virtuous circle of micro-content creation, curation and earnings.
From there it is easy to expand the idea further. If you want to write more about the experience, you can turn it into a longer blog post on Hive using front ends such as PeakD or on 3Speak as I have done with this post. In other words, a simple daily puzzle can lead to a short post, a conversation with other users, and potentially even some Hive rewards for your content. I noticed today that some players post their results along with funny gifs to attract more attention. Nice idea!
What I like about these games is that they combine a few things that many of us already enjoy. There is the puzzle solving aspect, the small crypto rewards, and the opportunity to share the experience with others online. None of the rewards are huge, but the games are quick to play and they add a bit of fun to the day.
Play Hive Word for HIVE Prizes!

One more thing about Hive Word – you can enter their Competitive Arena to stake and play for HIVE!
- First you must stake 5 HIVE.
- Then either directly challenge another player, or set an “Open” challenge to accept any opponent.
- The other player accepts the challenge by staking 5 HIVE.
- The winner gets back 8.5 HIVE!
- 1 HIVE is burnt (so playing this game means you are helping to fight Hiveperinflation).
- 0.5 Hive goes to admin
If you enjoy word puzzles and you like experimenting with different crypto platforms, both HiveWord and SatsCipher are worth checking out. (To play SatsCipher you must be a Pro member of Satsman). They are simple games, but they show how even small interactive tools can make online communities more engaging.
Cheers!
